So, rileks dan enjoy seadanya.

Ya, today's Jupiter's 2010 opposition will be the planet's brightest and best opposition of its entire 11.8-year orbit as the planet reach perihelion (its closest point to the Sun, at 4.95 Astronomical Units or 740 million km) just six months later, in March 2011.

Try play2 with  Stellarium and you will find Uranus doing a 'tango' with Jupiter. In fact Uranus' 2010 opposition(actual date: 22 Sep 2010 00:58) occur just 5 hours after Jupiter.

During this year till early next year, Jupiter and Uranus will be having a triple conjunction. The first conjunction took place on 6 June, the second conjunction will take place during this coming opposition and the last conjunction will be on 2 Jan next year.

BTW,  from KL and any part of Malaya,  Venus, Mars and Saturn will also be visible low in the Western Sky after sunset. In all 5 planets will be clearly visible to the naked eye the whole night! Don't miss it!

Pray for clear skies. Now KL very heavy rain and thunder and lightning to boot.  No wind though to blow away the clouds. Hope the rain will be sufficient to wash away the clouds.

Question: On a lighter note why do you see the lightning before you hear the thunder?

cheers

For one, light travels much faster at 3x10^8m/s than Mach 1 of sound waves.

And also L comes way before T in the alphabetical order... cheesy

Interesting observation Pak Aziz,

though it's going to be tough with Saturn is only 6 degree above horizon, and Jupiter/Uranus be 1 degree above East horizon during Sunset!  shocked

It is academic for me too. In front of my driveway is a 5 storey hill (E) and behind is my single storey roof(W). (N) is blocked by a neighbour's 5 storey house and (S) my other neighbour's 15m christmas tree.

In a few more years I will be living in an 'astronomy bowl'  with all the high rise condos and office blocks coming. Such is the price of progress cry

cheers
