KUALA LUMPUR - Jika terbukti wujudnya makhluk asing di angkasa lepas, bekas Ketua Pengarah Agensi Angkasa Negara (Angkasa), Prof. Datuk Dr. Mazlan Othman, 58, (gambar) bakal menjadi orang pertama akan berkomunikasi dengan entiti berkenaan.

Interaksi itu boleh dilakukan sekiranya hidupan lain di galaksi berjaya disahkan secara saintifik.

Tanggungjawab itu diberi kepada Mazlan oleh Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu (PBB) selaras dengan kedudukannya sebagai Pengarah di Pejabat Hal Ehwal Angkasa Lepas PBB yang beribu pejabat di Vienna, Austria.

Menurut laman web berita utama Australia, www.news.com.au, Mazlan akan menjelaskan peranan terbarunya ketika menyampaikan ceramah pada persidangan saintifik Universiti St. Andrews di Pusat Antarabangsa Kavli Royal Society, London pada minggu depan.

Pada persidangan itu, beliau dijadual berucap kepada para delegasi berhubung penemuan-penemuan terbaru berkaitan ratusan planet baru yang ditemui dalam sistem cakerawala.

Ia mungkin ada kaitan dengan kemungkinan manusia mampu berkomunikasi dengan makhluk asing.

hah if this is happening maka complete la Drake Equation yang i learned for 3 years in Cosmology module sampai pening2..

this is more or less about Drake Equation

Drake Equation ni adalah untuk mengganggarkan nilai yang mungkin bagi kebarangkalian untuk adanya 'extraterestrial' object wujud dan boleh menghantar isyarat kembali ke bumi.

N = R* X fp X ne X fl X fi X fc X L

where

    * N = The number of communicative civilizations
    * R* = The rate of formation of suitable stars (stars such as our Sun)
    * fp = The fraction of those stars with planets. (Current evidence indicates that planetary systems may be common for stars like the Sun.)
    * ne = The number of Earth-like worlds per planetary system
    * fl = The fraction of those Earth-like planets where life actually develops
    * fi = The fraction of life sites where intelligence develops
    * fc = The fraction of communicative planets (those on which electromagnetic communications technology develops)
    * L = The "lifetime" of communicating civilizations

but i personally think that when i did my extrasolar planet finding project, its really hard to find planets that have the Earth-like features since lots for the planet yang dijumpai yang menyerupai bumi mempunyai suhu yang beratus kali ganda lebih panas dan tidak sesuai untuk kehidupan lain.

'Extraterestrial' juga ada pelbagai tafsiran. bukan sahaja ia ditafsirkan sebagai makhluk asing yang macam diceritakan di dalam cerita ET tetapi sebarang miroorganisma yang terdapat di luar bumi juga dipanggil extraterrestrial life..

kesimpulannya, Drake equation memerlukan techlogy yang tinggi dan kemungkinan juga ia tidak akan lengkap kerana faktor2 untuk melengkapkan persamaan tersebut terlalu rumit untuk diselesaikan..

saya mmg dah tahu tugas head of United nation office of outer space affairs mmg jauh sekali berkaitan dengan menghubungi makhluk asing ..cuma media aje yang memperbesarkan nya..

Tp xmustahilkan kita boleh jumpa makhluk asing?? 

apa2 saya xsetuju sngt kalau kita cuba contact makhluk asing ni..sbb kita sendiri tak tahu mcm mana ketamadunan diorang..kalau takat cam kita je ok ar..tp kalau power lagi..hahahaha(sounds like saya ni bnyak tengok kartun pulak)..hahahahaha

same here. But because I don't know arabic so have to depend on English interpretations which maybe subjected to misinterpreting or mistranslation

with that caveat I proceed.

In Sahih Al-Bukhari, The Book of the Beginning of Creation, Chapter 3

First Allah says (V.6:97) (About the) Stars. Abu Qatadah mentioned Allah's Statement:"And we have adorned the nearest heaven with lamps"(V. 67:5). before that :""Who has created the seven heavens one above the other;"(V. 67:3) and said, "The creation of these stars is for three purposes, ie. as decoration of the (nearest) heaven, as missiles to hit the devils and as signs to guide travellers. So, if anybody tries to find a different interpretation, he is mistaken and just wastes his efforts, and troubles himself with what is beyond his limited knowledge."

Unfortunately for us Muslims, nowadays  it takes the kafirs to make us appreciate further and help us to understand the meaning of the Allah's statement.

I am referring to the understanding of V.22:5 and V.23:13-14.

So do read the Koran and the Hadith and interpret them.

The Koran and the Hadith explains in the Israj and Mikraj that the Buruj took the Prophet for the single night journey to the seven heaven and when he came back Abu Bakar was still alive and around. So Einstein's theory is incomplete in as much as Issac Newton was. So go find the fudge factor.

Well, if we just think at it for a second, Einstein's theory are limited to the physical world, while the prophet's journey are both physical and spiritual (That's why he can meet the previous prophets). So I won't be so fast to say that Einstein's theory is incomplete (and vice versa) for both of these world are different. Besides, if the prophet returns home at a different time, things might be a lot different now, praise to god that it didn't happen, for god knows best.

I have experience on conversation with some people, who actually rejects that man had ever go to moon.
The argument that they always use is "The moon is not in the first layer of the heavens", and many similar
spiritual related arguments. The problem is, they tried to infuse physical reality of this world with spiritual world. Some "Kitabs" tells the nature of the heavens in spiritual explanation (By people who attained "Khasyaf"). For me, both world are real, but you just can't use spiritual arguments to deny the facts of the physical world. Sure, we can use it, but be ready to be laugh at.

And I think the right word for the prophet's transport to heavens above are "Buraq", not "Buruj".

May Allah bless us all and show to us the straight path, for us that is still learning and searching to grasp the truth. Ameen

I don't want to go into a Ibn ʻArabī's time and cosmology discourse as I do not subscribed to Sufism and mystics as I do not understand
but looking more into a simpler fudge factor akin to the Lorentz factor correction that reduces Einstein's world to Newton's world at real world velocities 

The Muslim's have this tendency to take the easy way out and argue on the nebulous whilst the Westerner goes on and on in search for the erudite explanation.

Fascinating. I have just finished reading "The world of the Jinn & Devils" by Dr S. Al Ashqar, Jordan University publish by IIPH

Yes the west is spending billions on seeking life forms many light years away, the Quran and  Sunnah have inform us that there are other creatures living amongst us here.

The jinn known to the west, poke and made fun off is from stories of Aladdin where they are treated as a fairy story and the TV series "I dream of Genie" for those old enough.

To Muslim, they are real creatures, albeit part of the world of the unseen (hence called jinn). Some amongst them are Muslim and  many pose a very real danger to mankind.

The Jinns  are living rational beings who share with us this planet earth, our house, eat and drink and may corrupt our minds and hearts, push us to destroy ourselves. In the process the Jinns cause us to earn the wrath of Allah and damned us to Hell.

FYI the Jinn were created before man. Whilst man is carbon based, jinn is created from fire. BTW angels are created from light.

The next book will be InsyaAllah IbnTaymeeyah`s Essay On The Jinn.
