stars in M42 image not round or pin-point, signs of astigmatism ?  shocked

InsyaAllah weather permit, will do drift-alignment at yet-to-be-named-observatory tonight   evil

Thnaks for the encouragement embarassed
The PENTAX scope focuser uses step focus mechanism so fine focus is not possible.
Also the PENTAX does have a blue halo around brighter stars.
When near focus with this scope the star sizes don't change but the halos change significantly with minor focus changes. So focused for the least halo one could get.
So focus was done on a star and hence the moon is slightly OOF grin

I am being petty , but otherwise the PENTAX is a fine scope.

I have PMed how to star test a telescope and to confirm your polar alignment I suggest you use this

cheers

Not a bad try.  smiley
The halo was expected from this Pentax scope as it designed in the film era. Where film sensitivity range not as broad as digital sensor.
I noticed there got a waste or "miss used" of equipment....APM/APO 115 for guiding....what a waste angry angry angry....the combination should reverse... wink

Thank you sifu.

Removing the purple halo is easy in PS. Should have reduced the size too before registering n stacking.

The use of APM APO 115 for guiding  is called inverted snobbery grin

cheers

I have same halo problem with my takahashi fc60.

Agree with universe24. I would use the APM as it will definitely produce better result. If it comes with reducer/flaterner, would be much better.

As a photographer, I think I understand his reasoning. We're trying to use the widest aperture a.k.a. lowest F value. Hence the Pentax's F4 is much preferred.

Less exposure time and more bokeh!!!

Wait for the upcoming Hyperstar and we'll SEE the difference! grin
