believe me, you need at least 10 inch to enjoy 'some' view on Nebulas.. anything less akan mengecewakan..

So how about its effectiveness in reducing city light pollution then?

For which one? Dah confuse sikit..

If for my current LPS, doing CCD imaging, well.. the results speak by itself. Most of the Nebula at Sagittarius masa ambik tu, was inside the red glow of KL. Still boleh dapat...

Though one cannot compare la with the one taken at dark skies!

For using LPS with visual, I remember try one about a decade ago.. so couldn't recall the results back then.

I would recommend, if in the near future you want to do astrophotography with the telescope, kumpul duit dulu, then invest on good mount and then good camera. Baru lepas tu boleh consider nak beli LPS or the narrowbands.

From my point of view.
1. LPS not worthy to buy unless you got big aperture scopes to hunt Nebulas.
2. LPS not worthy to buy unless you live in severe light polluted area. Your Bandar Nusaputra area nampak gaya tak perlu sangat LPS, pasal Milky Way pun dah nampak!!
3. LPS worthy to buy for Astrophotography, BUT invest first on GOOD mount and camera.

my 2 cents

Saya sokong step2 di atas.

It is time for you to get a DSLR (modded if u want something special). evil <more bad weather to come> grin

Since u already got an EQ mount, you can start with wide shots and progress to higher magnification with time.

Then only get an LPS. I think these filters reduce the overall brightness. So when using it for visual, the nebulas that u want to see visually, might become even dimmer and harder to see. But the contrast is boosted.

You might want to get a flattener for your scope too along with an LPS filter... when you get there.
