I know it is overkill... but what if... the product can be marketable? Atau DSLR 5DM2 memadai?

Untuk Dec ini lunar eclipse buat dimana. Guna lightrac bulan dilindung pokok kalau di KL planetarium. Bulan disember biasanya sebelah utara langit terang waktu maghrib. Pantai timur hujan. KL tower? I would say if it is for personal momento, 5Dii is sufficient enuff. Judging by the option given, you have the option of either the two. If I were in the position to choose among the two, i'd go for the one which has got the ease when it comes to aftersales/warranty to the concerned equipment. Using the gear & features is just somethin any of us can learn in time prior to the eclipse. Gerhana matahari penuh ni nanti ada plan for the trip to down under kah? What is the budgetary cost like for this kinda trip? The only one i found on the net is rather steep, http://www.siriustravel.com/Australia12/index.cfm. A figure in the ballpark may could shed some light to this.

Reasonable for 3 meals a day and lodging and transport at 530 per day for a 5/4 star hotel and at peak season with summer revelers and eclipse watchers. The penalty is paying in AUS $ now more expensive than USD.
Palm Cove is about 27km North of the international airport at Cairns.
Lain lah kalau 3star or farm stay or backpacking.
Possible Cheaper alternative: Now Cairns has a mosque. One of the functions of a mosque is to provide for travelers ie musafir. Usually around the mosque area Halal food should be available. Transport in Australia is by bus or car rental. The eclipse is Summertime in Australia. Plenty of things to do before and after. The only issue is like traveling anywhere else in the world safety of equipment; laptops, mounts , cameras, tripod, lense/telescope. Then our requirements when watching or taking pictures of the eclipse eg electricity and toilets.
If the mosque at Cairns is full as Australians travel in Summer;then there is another at Mareeba or ask them for Muslim farm stays or a boarding place ala bed and breakfast.
The alternative and cheaper method requires a bit of work and planning. Eg. contact with the mosque. Planning and arranging Ground logistics. Airline booking are available usually a year ahead. I recall airline travel in Australia is crazy due to distances. It maybe cheaper to travel to transit Melbourne before flying to Cairns compared to traveling KL to Cairns.
Then there is NETT!
BTW expensive equipment with their custom parts may not be the most reliable. Australia is considered backwater for repairs of latest and high end model.
Cheers

KL tower?
Setakat ni saya masih open to suggestion. Tapi takut tak mampu nak capture the contrast difference of the eclipse (not that I know coz I've yet to see one myself, just words spread out by others that have witnessed and photographed it). Need testing juga if we can control the camera settings remotely probably from a laptop to avoid unnecessary shaking of the rig... This might also be the setup with the highest probability to actually be used. The video setup will be supported by photography setups of ((a small scope and a 85mm/135mm lens) + camera) on the same tracking platform. All ready for bracketing. A stationary wide angle 24mm/50mm will hopefully be recording video + photo as well. I would say if it is for personal momento, 5Dii is sufficient enuff. Judging by the option given, you have the option of either the two. Good point about the aftersales service. Canon has just started on this path but the company making the Scarlet-X has already been providing the film industry with their cameras for quite a while now. Lets go for vacation package!!! One week of Australia mate?

Selamat Menyambut AidilAdha semua.. As experience goes, keep it simple and light. No more hangling around HEQ5 for me! .. pssttt..letting it go, anyone interested? Might need a 'lighter' model Good info about the moqsue and stuffs.. good to look into it. No more NETT for me this time, mau rilex enjoy trip bersama keluarga or small group. No stress in orgazing big group bla bla.. cepat tua ooo..

If going with NETT then I will bring the set proven in TSE 2009 comprising of MT mount and tripod, canon ID2, canon 400 f/5.6, 1.4 extender, solar filter and eclipse orchestrator software on a 11 inch Thinkpad and garmin gps for the time pips. I can watch the eclipse and don't have to worry with the camera and get the pictures too. For normal night astrophotography an Astrotrac, with canon 60D with 200mm f/2.8 and 18-55m kit lens, and a 50mm and 8 alkaline D-cells. Otherwise just have to live with Astrotrac setup with the 400mm. Now need to practise polar alignment in the Southern Hemisphere. If only Angkasa let us use the Dome for practise. Any observations and comments. Cheers

The dynamic of the solar eclipse may cannot be cover by any imaging/video devices. Utilize what we already have should be enough. If there is a plan to go together, observation plans can be distribute among members so that no duplications. There got so many things we would like to do during the totality or the whole eclipse process and I am sure that one person only manage to handle one task. Considered the totality time is just less than 2 minutes....
Of course, I am sure that everyone also would like to have the eclipse shot with a telescope. If this is your wish to do so, then please focus on this. You might only allow to handle one more task which is video record the eclipse process. But not multiple-exposure + eclipse close up shot. (For first timer)
My eclipse plan mainly on taking the flash spectrum and also shot the whole process with telescope. ( A 60mm scope look handy)

I agree. Let's do a demo under the planetarium dome for a 2 minutes eclipse, and see how many things we can do during that time. Kena tulis surat rasmi ke planetarium ke kalau nak buat ni?

Wah...topik yg menarik dan aktiviti yg dinantikan sempena awal hujung tahun nie. (Gerhana).

I agree. Let's do a demo under the planetarium dome for a 2 minutes eclipse, and see how many things we can do during that time. Kena tulis surat rasmi ke planetarium ke kalau nak buat ni? The response will be either a Yes or No ie 50:50. If do not write in the answer is for 100% we Never Know:-) So no harm trying. Best if bermula dengan training followed by a full dress rehearsal. I run three cameras during the TSE 2009. 1. Tracking mounted Canon 1D2 with a Canon 400mm f/5.6 +1.4X extender + Baader Solar Filter exposure controlled by Eclipse Orchestrator (EO) The hazy conditions meant that I had to modify all the exposures in the photography script before I could launch the Orchestrator program. Fire up EO and was rewarded with the sound of the computer program firing the shutter of the 1D2. Both USB cable and thanks to Saudara Shah the serial shutter cable flown in from US just in time were used. The 1D2 was used for it's 8fps to take Baily Beads. 2. Fixed Tripod mounted Canon 20D with 8mm Sigma fish eye borrowed from Saudara Redzuan time lapsed using the Canon TC 80N starting from first contact onwards. 3. Hand held Nikon D300 with 18-200mm VR lens for general walkabout pics. As it was my first Total Solar Eclipse, I was told to experience it with my own eyes as totality approaches and the day turn to night. Not busy taking pictures. The EO and the TC80N was doing that for me. So I did. No measurements or experiments for me. My wife did the standing egg experiment and she managed to keep the egg standing long enough to the surprise of the locals. Cheers

I have the same idea as Pak Aziz for the automation process... I agree, the TC sure comes in handy and I can concentrate more on the video part. A letter from FalakOnline is sure a welcome. Time to step up to the next level, as a champion for the local enthusiasts. State that this is more of just pure testing and training and can be done on Mondays or after hours. No food necessary. Just access to the dome facilities. many thanks to Mr Universe for sharing the TSE2009 info... very insightful... p/s: just to mention, the Scarlet-X is capable of recording 4k video in HDR up to 18 f-stops...

1D2 can shoot 8fps in RAW...thats pretty fast! It seem that Pak Aziz has bought the EO full version during that time? Now we got an expert in EO to help us on how to write the script in EO. EO definately help a lot and we can do more tasks. Let's have TT session to discuss more. For those who experienced totality before can share their experiences.
