Wah so many M42. must be the season shocked

Last night Trying to figure what went wrong with PhD autoguiding at BCS.

Took out the EQ6 polar align using WCS

Test with BYE Drift align stars don't move for 180sec.

Start PhD and autoguide everything went haywire.

Feedback is to unisntall and reinstall PhD.

With M42 so clear and with canon 500mm f4 mounted or in astronomer's term Canon 125 f4, still to get use to emphasis on aperture grin

like Shah says, to good to pass, so unguided I took. All at ISO 1600.

even with the CLS filter, max exposure is 180 sec. more a whitewash. tongue

cheers

You have much more nebulasity than I do la, Pak Aziz... Nice... Love the redness... Just the slightly burnt core can be retrieved?

I believe the more the number of  light photons the more the nebulosity and 50 x 30 sec is not  similar 10 x 150 sec. Although the maths is the same    evil

Unfortunately from my location at down town KL  maximum exposure is  slightly above 120sec with CLS filter.

So either a faster telescope such as hehe.... f2 or a better low noise camera that can increase ISO to 64000 but without eating stars.

The  idea was to find out what went wrong at BCS with PHD. Was advise to reinstall PHD.

Must investigate with IDAS LPS filter and if cloud permits with Ha filter too.

At KB, a darker site max is in the region of 300 sec for uncooled DSLR.

That is a huge increase in number of photons captured.

So it is better to find a dark site and spend a week of imaging in summer and a week in winter...hint..hint.

Maybe inputs from others on their experience imaging the night sky.

Cheers

I guess if u r imaging somewhat wide field (<30mm) drift alignment should suffice for <1 minute exposures. Better not waste the opportunity of a clear sky.

And nothing beats a dark site and cloudless skies for astrphotography...

Betul ke ni. Saya tak  faham. huh

All along I was told that drift alignment is one of the more precise method of polar alignment . evil

The mathematics is here for those interested

I stand corrected.

I agree. Even the polaris-enabled observers eventually refined their polar alignment with the drift method.

Yup, hence avoid the cluttered mess of setting up of guiding equipment...

That's coming from me who still tries to avoid auto/manual guiding at this point...
