Hello Tommy,

Hi,

I also asked the same Q in cloudynights forum...

http://www.cloudynights.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=0&Number=1158056&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=all&fpart=1&vc=&PHPSESSID=

Most of them also agreed with we can survive in astronomy only in visual observation.

Maybe this can help for you to answer this trick Q.

kamayok3,
If the word "survive" is used of course you can la .. Its not compulsory what..  .
Unless the question was "Can you survive bungee jumping without a bungee cord?" that is pretty much more debatable? grin

Anyway, kamayok3 taking photos whether astro photos or not brought more sentimental value for sure.

And its getting cheaper now what. DSLR price getting lower and lower (Gee I wish!) and APO too.

I really wish to show off my children with my astrophotos soon when they can learn to appreciate them.

BTW, I will be leaving Malaysia for good on 2nd October to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Teleskop reflector tu ke? Mungkin macam tommy kata, collimcation lari, atau cuba tengok eyepiece dan secondary mirror, mungkin dah banyak habuk, fungus, cap jari, etc etc  grin

found this interesting question.

dulu only 3 alternatives

1. pure observing

2. sketching and recording

3. plate photography

but now

1. pure observing remains

2.sketching and recording replaced by multi media click The Planetary Society

3. hubble telescope replacing plate photos; even the amateur humble telescope can take great pictures. see Russel Croman and see Robert Gendler and see Christ Venter

one thing for sure observing astronomy and astrophotographer may sometime don't see eye to eye; one may go the messeir marathon in one night and the other may be as happy to shoot just M42 in one night. grin

cheers

Give and take matter...no matter how you chose your observation method, the most important thing is, do you enjoyed?

agree.
