Hi,

As an amateur astronomer, we always ask this question to ourself, dear friends and public. How many scope do we need just to get involve into astronomy?

I know this question can be very tricky, because it will reflect your personality and your thinking as well.

BTW, this is just a general surveying. I found out that now price for consumer items and so on are getting higher.... Sad

Hope no hurt feeling.

Regards,

Tommy

yooo...tommy!

A tricky question it is!
I do not have a clear view about the scope you mention, but for me, just seeing the dark sky through a gigantic telescope isn't enough to get us involve into astronomy. we must know how to classify and describe about phenomena in the sky, such the type of planets, stars, or even the galaxy itself.

sebab ni saya minat kat astronomy, tommy. lagipun, berbanding dengan bidang ilmu lain sepeti geologi, archeology dll, it look like astronomy is so vast. hanya tuhan shj yg tahu...

Hahaha.......

Yes, u are right. Even a big, huge, large, giant telescope also cannot satisfy the needs of an astronomer or amateur astronomer.

But back to my question, because I come across this kind of situation which is one person can owned 3-5 scopes at one time. Eventhough 10 scopes also possible. I am just curious why we need so much of scopes that actually we only have a pair of eyes to look up to the universe?  huh

So, do we need so much of scopes just to satisfy our need?

Regards,

Tommy

Tommy,

A simple answer is I think there is no one scope that can do everything.  Another answer is some people have money to burn.

As for myself, I'm seriously thinking about a second scope like WO ZS66 (widefield, relatively fast, can become guidescope).  This is to complement my 6in SCT (relatively large focal length, relatively slow at f/10).  These will become my grab and go gear, relatively lightweight where I can dump them in my car and take them anywhere (bila balik kampung ke KB or Desaru).  But sometime in the future, when I decide to retire (too far away still) and build my own house (I hope there will still be dark sites in outskirts of KB at that time!), I'll build it complete with an observatory, housing a 14" RCX or something, to hunt those faint objects.  So that's my line up of scopes that I wanted.

you have a point there, nsyahron.
the way i see about it, a numbers of scopes will produce a better, greater and acceptable theory or conclusion about the phenomena in space. Let take the sun as an example. If we look at it through the telescope, we will see only a bright sphere. But if we look it in other scope such as looking at it through other method like using infrared, we can tell how hot the sun is.

jadi, sebanyak mana skop tak menjadi masalah untuk kita menceburi bidang ni. tapi untuk mengkaji sesuatu tentang kejadian2 di angkasa, mahupun apa skalipun, kita perlu melihat sesuatu perkara melalui pelbagai skop.

p/s: nsyahron, KB yg u mention tu kota bharu ke?
