whew...astrophotography is more difficult that shooting birds. one would have thought that sky objects cannot run away, it would have been sup-sup swae.
Tonight after maghrib prayers spent 1 hour setting up the mount. set controller to EQ mode.first do a two star alignment. RA off , Azimuth off. redo a two star alignment. again RA off (better) azimuth off(much better). again redo; RA off, Azimuth slightly off. redo RA-zero, Azimuth-zero. Do three star alignment. confirm RA zero, Azimuth zero. Mount aligned.
Was adviced by a sifu to recheck. Slew to Spica- star in FOV . Slew to Arcturus - also star in FOV. Slew to saturn-spot on.
Replace telescope with the C8. Recheck. Slew to regulus-FOV. Track for 5 mins to check for drift. slight drift. Can see clouds moving in . So have to take pictures. Quick man. Answer nature's call. Attached the Canon 40D to the C8. Live view Focus on Regulus. Set the TC80N3. Attached the TC80N3 to the 40D. Slew to Sombrero galaxy. Beep.
Took 5X7min shots. Download to computer. stack and align using deepskystaker. nothing. check each frame- nothing. Panic can see clouds moving in. Slew to moon live view focus and adjust Tv took a shot. jadi.
Aiya forgot to change ISO to 1600. Murphy's law strikes again and by this time cloud cover over the zenith and so goes the Sombrero Galaxy (M104). Never mind next opportunity. taada rezeki. Must remember do a cook book for astrophotography.
