not all the images are successful. this one is subjected to flare most likely form the bright star alnitak(?)

over the internet this flare can happen when using camera lens or telescopes.

Image Data

    * Lens :Canon 400mm f5.6 L
    * Focal Length: 400mm
    * F/stop: f/5.6
    * Exposure: Single 602sec exposure
    * Mount: HEQ5 Pro German-equatorial mount drift aligned (1 minute)
    * Guiding:ED80 TVGuider autoguide
    * Camera: modified Canon EOS 40D
    * Mode: RAW
    * ISO: 800
    * White Balance: Auto
    * In-Camera Noise Reduction: Off
    * Filter: None
    * Processing: PS3 converter, Level adjustment,  sized for the web save as JPEG

Question is how to reduce this flare or precautions taken to prevent it from happening.

any opinions

cheers
