Already ordered one!
But now still got  no time to observe properly.
Playing around with the AstroPlanner software and Scopedriver.
Cool ! can control the scope on laptop.
Create my own #505 cable based on this http://www.weasner.com/etx/fun/etx_star_party_2002/etx90ec-talk.zip
Paid < RM10 for the cable+db9 and RJ11 4pin bought at Silicon IMBI Plaza.

This is the resting place of the scope ..

a  22x10 tool box from ACE hardware.

Tommy can't join you yet.. got so many plans.. tomorrow have to attend a seminar and soon my wife go outstation and i will be left with 3 kids at home!

wow....so fast??? do you think it is a universal eyepiece adapter for webcam? what do i mean universal is will it be fit into other eyepieces besides than MEADE brand???

Nice cable man....I also got one...but now no more using already. Actually now I am looking for a 4" or 5" achromatic refractor. Not using it for astrophotography. For wide field viewing will do.

I will try to get out from serious astrophotography soon. Be a social astrophotographer. No point to wasting or invest a lot of money into it......this is my opinion only Smiley " Lost a lot of knowledge and time to do observing" Smiley I found out a lot of my observing buddy will try to avoid me when I am doing astrophotography, and I also feel lonely when stargazing together. So, have to get back this relationship and knowledge in observing, not in astrophotography. Smiley Smiley

Bah......I will still wish good luck to all the astrophotography fellow out there.

Come out and have a drink one day........

See ya

shahgazer,
Saya dah buat research nak beli scope ni dari tahun lepas .. buku pun dah 4-5 beli.. dah offline download few websites buat rujukan tu yang dah prepare macam2 bila scope ni sampai Smiley
Sekarang struggling to find time to observe. This week wife outstation terpaksa babysit anak2 so membaca jek la Smiley

Tommy  I'll be joining you in Ulu Yam very soon..  my Electric Focuser arrived at the office today but still there coz wasnt in the office today. NexImage already got from your friend .. now still waiting for the + 5mm Plossl 1.25"+ 18mm Wide Angel Plossl 1.25" + Meade barlow #126 to arrive including the webcam eyepiece projection. Hope to save enough to  buy Canon 300D ..actually its for the wife as a gift for her hobby but take the advantage so that can be used for my astrophotography hehe..

Eh.. I also hope one day can get a lxd75  ar5 ... if the interest in this new hobby grew..  Already sacrifice my 3 Cisco routers from my home lab to get into this expensive hobby...!

rizal,

Happy to hear that you got everything u need. You look like me last time...buy a lot of things. But at last, sell it out one by one. This is a good time for you to take some experience. When you think you dont need those things, you better sell it out quick.

You are lucky, man! You got a lot of people giving you opinions and guidance. For me that time, need to learn everything one by one. Then sell things out one by one also..Smiley Coz something that cannot be used with ETX...Make sure before you buy accessories.

Actually with ETX, you got a lot of limitation. Astrophotography limitation, observing limitation, etc.....you have to used to it. You will know when the time is come.

For astrophotography, you have to eliminate the mirror slopping and shifting problem. I already overcome this two problem.

For observing, you have to know how to play with eyepieces and barlow. the problem of maksutov is brightness. You can't really use a high power eyepiece to look at a faint and fuzzy objects.

Now what you need to learn is to understand the concept of drift alignment, tube balancing, mount structure, gear and tracking problem, autostar configuration, etc......all these stuffs do not included in the ETX book.

No balancing and alignment, how to do astrophotography? Now is the time for you to show us....

Really have to say goos luck in you new toys. hope nothing will happen in this few months. Coz I kena before!!!! Smiley

Join our stargazing one day.......maybe you will be the one who using autostar among us...Smiley I get out from it already...hehehehe:)

See ya.

Hi Tommy,

About the mirror slopping and shifting problem on ETX. Can you explain more on this? I not really understand and imagine the problem.
I think if you talk about mirror shifting problem, SC type of telescope will give you even worse than ETX. Not that, the primary mirror, the whole piece will move up and down when you are doing focusing?

Personally, although the FOV brightness for ETX is not so exceptable, but I like the scope sharpness. When use ETX for planets, the planets is so solid and sharp!
Back in 2001, I actually plan to purchase one special for planets, lunar and solar. Especially solar, lunar eclipses.

yes....according the design of SCT and MCT, the possibility of mirror slopping /shifting are higher. Mirror moving inside...only one side focusing method. So, the mirror will not be moving in very accurate. I think everyone using SCT or MCT will experience this.

But it also caused by the weight of the mirror and angle of the OTA pointing to.

what do I mean by weight of the mirror?  Means that if the diameter of the mirror is more than 8"...the weight of the mirrir will be unacceptable.

why ETX facing minor mirror shifting? I personally tested it before. Besides of shifting, slopping also available.

How to eliminate this situation? Maybe we can add a focuser or do some trick  s on the focusing shaft to temporary remove the shifting but not slopping.

If you are planning to do astrophotography, this will be your main enemy.

Now, how angle/position of the scope will bring the slopping along?  As we know, mirror  moving in SCT or MCT only be controlled by a focucing shaft. So, plus the focusing shaft cannot really hold the weight of the mirror, then the mechanism between the mirror and draw tube(is this the right words?) is not really fit enough, slopping problem will occur.

So, now I assume that you all know what the heck is shifting and slopping problem, and these are my personal opinion.

Actually I already fix this two problem recently. But I also spent quite a lot   on something. At the end, I am not doin this becoz of astrophotography. I like to see DSOs in wide field.

Universe24, the points that you mentioned are correct. Sharpness and dark background that ETX gave us are excellent. Actually we are the winner in light polluted area. But once we get into the dark site, definately we will be the losser to those using big guns. But something that we can change so that we will not be always a losser.Smiley I won the heart and impression from lot of observers last saturday night with my mighty wide field ETX125. I can't imagine that I can get a wide field of M42 & M43 area by using my 26mm. Try to imagine how about if I put 32mm,40mm or RINI 52mm ep. Impressed! Interesting! I also done a sketching on wide field M42. I like astro-sketching nowadays. I think I will put down my camera and film then hold a pencil and eraser in every single abservation.

Hope all of you feel not sleepy and boring when looking at this message.

good luck to all of you.
