Canon or Nikon is good. google for astrophotography using Nikon DSLR and you will see many fine images. grin

Canon had a head start as explained by this article where Sony CCD sensors were used by Nikon and inhouse manufactured CMOS sensors were used by Canon requiring different approaches to noise reduction.

It is call the goreng pisang syndrome grin

So use the camera you have for astrophotography. Even a point and shoot (fondly known as compact camera).

BTW a Pentax is equally useable.

AND if you are seriously into astrophotography have your DSLR camera modified . You can still use it for normal photography using the cap of a Pringles potato chips container
Do a search on FO.grin

cheers

For future replacement of internal UV/IR filter to an astronomical friendly filter, seem only Canon has this advantage.
Of course, if the target is not those red color nebula, a modification can be say no need.
Wide field astrophotography with landscape...basically any camera with big aperture, high ISO, low noise and capable to expose 60s and longer is ok.
Another point is the image processing software and camera control via computer, Canon come in free...

i guess canon has some advantage in astrphotography if u r to start from zero. a good path to start. but if u already own a nikon don't fret, try to utilize it until u've got a good foundation for astrphotography, in SLR  category.

And even if u r using nikon, don't feel ashame. canons are still glued to the ground. While Nikon have been spending more time in space and continuing its untouched legacy, till this day...

Nikon d90 is my vote, better spec for general purpose photography
unless u really want to go for astrophotography only, then u can choose canon 550d
