Pencerapan Samawi / Pengalaman mencerap objek cakerawala / "Mercury" Transit Picture

I managed to get up early and snap a few picture of 'Mercury'. I managed to see the Sun using the projection method. However, I'm now a bit confused. You'll see.. Oh, and i increased the contrast so it was easier to see. Testing the equipment. Its ok! .jpg) A nice round Sun with a dot plonked on its edge. .jpg) There's the Sun, and there's Mercury! Or is it? .jpg) Upon higher magnification, I spotted something(above) that looked like patches around the main object. It reminded me of an egg on a frying pan. It was starting to look like..a sunspot! [The black dor wasnt caused by dust on my paper] Did i wake up real early just to see a sunspot that would have waited for me all day? Well, the black dot did move. Could someone please help confirm my findings? PS: Never put your finger on an eyepiece's optics while the telescope is pointed at the Sun!

A very beautiful picture. Plus the drama, with streaks of stars of all colours, whizzing past the bold comet.

I've got a strong interest in astronomy that has lasted in me since I was eight. And it shows no sign of stopping. So I'm propably going to study astronomy in uni. Could anyone suggest a career with something to do with astronomy. I have an interest in stars ; as in studying its 'wobbles' for any signs of planets, calculating its distance by its angle towards earth, using infa-red.... Really interested in it. Plus, can anyone suggest a place to study astoronomy? Oh, and give me a career with ASTRONOMICAL GAJI! hehe just joking, as long as its interesting.

I think that you're a bit confused between Nasa's Deep Impact and Holywood's Deep Impact. In The movie, an asteroid on a collision-course to earth has had governments worrying and a few astronouts are blasted into space to try to brake it up. Plus all the drama.
Nasa'a one, however, is to find out about the origins about our solar system, the best specimen of the early solar system.
There is a suspision of a asteroid crashing onto Earth, but it might just skim across us just a few AUs away. But that has nothing to do with NASA's Deep Impact mission.
