Press Release for “THE SUMMIT ASTRONOMY FAIR 2005” [Hantar komen & pertanyaan anda di sini] For the first time in the Klang Valley, an event called “The Summit Astronomy Fair 2005” will be held in The Summit Subang USJ Shopping Centre from 18 to 20 November 2005. The Summit Astronomy Fair 2005 aims at sharing the joy of astronomy with the general population – “Bringing Astronomy To The People” where patrons and shoppers can have a first hand direct experience of what is astronomy and be able to view many amazing astronomical objects with the help of many telescopes.
For many years, the Astronomy Club and Astronomy & Atmospheric Science Research Unit of Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) have been promoting astronomical activities in Penang and the northern region. The response from students, teachers and members of the public has been tremendous. Many of the activities have been conducted in schools, colleges, government departments, multinational companies and shopping complexes. The organizers of “The Summit Astronomy Fair 2005” are the management of The Summit Subang USJ and the Astronomy & Atmospheric Science Research Unit of Universiti Sains Malaysia. Activities in this event include Talks, Astrophotography Exhibition, Telescope Exhibition, Telescope Clinic, Planetarium Shows, Sunspots Observation, Solar Flares Observation, Aero Plane Paper Modeling, Space Art Colouring and Drawing Contest, Aliens Making Contest, Quiz, Workshop on Making and Launching Water-Rockets, Workshop on Making Spectrohelioscopes for Producing Rainbows, and Demonstrations on How to Make a Home made telescope. During the evening of Saturday, 19th November 2005, “ The Biggest Star Party in Klang Valley” will be conducted. In this activity, many telescopes of all types and sizes will be gathered just outside The Summit Subang USJ to observe the wonders of the Universe. Objects that can be observed include the moon, stars, constellations, nebulas, galaxies and many deep sky objects. As an added attraction, “The Planet Mars will still be very near to the Earth and many of its interesting features will be visible through a telescope”, said Assoc. Prof Dr. Chong Hon Yew – Lecturer of the Astronomy and Atmospheric Science Research Unit of USM. The opening ceremony of “The Summit Astronomy Fair 2005” will begin at 8.00 p.m. on Saturday, 19th November 2005 and will be officiated by the Minister of Science Technology and Innovation, Y.B. Datuk Seri Hj Jamaludin Bin Dato Mohd Jarjis. DO NO MISS THIS EVENT SEEING IS BELIEVING ADMISSION IS FREE ALL ARE WELCOME Mr Teoh Sim Weng from Sky and Teoh Observatory announced that with the participation of the telescope companies and many amateur astronomers and astronomy clubs, we should be able to gather 20-50 (or more) telescopes of all types and sizes for this event. As an added attraction, Mr Bobby Chiam from Stargazer Scientific Sdn Bhd agreed to provide a free checking service, ie cleanse the lenses of telescope at no cost and also minor repair work. Ms Cecilia Khor, the Senior Manager- Leasing and A & P of The Summit Subang USJ further added, “ The Management of The Summit Subang USJ feel highly honoured to partner with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to organize this type of educational programme. The Summit Astronomy Fair 2005 aims to promote the beauty of the universe, that is, stars, planets, deep sky objects and outer space etc. Meanwhile, The Summit Subang USJ anticipate to conduct “The Biggest Star Party in Klang Valley” during this Astronomy Fair to the shoppers and patrons of our Shopping Complex.
